Is it Time for a Room Refresh?

Decorating Dialogue· Design news· Design Tips· DIY decor

Hello design Peeps!
Is it time for a room refresh? Or should I say, how do you know, if you need a room refresh! Or better yet, what the heck is a room refresh?
It’s actually pretty simple when you think about it!

What’s a Room Refresh

If you look at your space (usually a living room or family room, but could be any room) and you feel like it looks tired, a bit dated, or you just aren’t feeling comfortable in the space, then you know it’s time for a room refresh!
The cool thing about a room refresh is that it can usually be done in one day. Sometimes, it will take a little longer if you are getting new pillows or some other decor accents.

How to complete a Room Refresh

The steps are simple and you only need to focus on what needs refreshing. I’d like to take a minute for a shameless plug of my recently refreshed website. Yes, my old website looked tired, dated and needed a more current, on brand feel. My new website feels fresh, clean, and much more updated for today. For purposes of this discussion I’ll highlight the changes I made to the Featured Projects page. Hopefully these images are inspiring, and give you some creative ideas. Observe things like the furniture placement, how to hang artwork, or just simply what decor looks you you like.

Steps for a Quick Room Refresh

After you select your target space, take a minute and make notes of what really bugs you. Is it the color scheme? Do you feel like the room is off balance? Is it difficult to move around the space? Do you have empty areas, or conversely, do you feel like there’s too much stuff? Do you have enough light in the space? What changes would make the room more comfortable and inviting? These are the questions I think of before I make any changes. Your next steps will depend on how you answer those questions.

Don’t change what you like.
Do make changes to what isn’t working.
Updating colors can be achieved by simply changing out artwork, pillows, or curtain panels if you have them.
If the room is to tight, consider editing out extra stuff.
Want a fresh look? Think about moving your furniture pieces around. It’s okay, you won’t get arrested by the furniture police! Ha Ha
